Technology, quality and sustainability in powder coating.
The in-depth feature published by International Paint&Coating Magazine tells the story of one of the most significant industrial challenges of recent years undertaken by COMEL: the creation of a fully automated, integrated and high-performance powder coating plant.
An ambitious project, made possible through the synergy of technical expertise, continuous investment and a clear vision: to further raise standards of excellence and process quality.
A department that reflects who we are
Visiting the COMEL plant today means stepping into a production facility where efficiency and innovation coexist with method and order. Just a few steps beyond the entrance, a surprising environment opens up: spacious, bright and highly functional. This is the coating department.
Here, every day, a 6 km line moves components to be treated with 5 booths and 4 anthropomorphic robots, capable of daily managing up to 600 handling units measuring 4 metres in length.
The system is fully automated, every phase is tracked, synchronised and monitored. A technology that not only improves timing and quality, but elevates the entire production process to a new standard.
What makes it even more distinctive is the introduction of PaintQP – Paint Quality Process, a proprietary COMEL protocol that guarantees maximum corrosion protection and a uniform finish for even the most complex components.
To support this, an in-house laboratory performs chemical-physical tests on each batch: salt spray, adhesion, impact tests, thorough and constant monitoring of process parameters.
It is not simply about “coating well”, but about delivering measurable and long-lasting durability.

An in-house production cycle that makes the difference
COMEL is today one of the few Italian companies to have a complete production cycle, from sheet metal processing to the finished product, paint-coated in-house.
This makes it possible to respond quickly even to complex orders, ensuring aesthetic consistency, quality control and operational reliability.
Confirming the excellence achieved is the international Qualisteelcoat certification, which guarantees compliance with the highest corrosion protection standards, even in the highest exposure classes (C4-C5), with class H durability (range 15-25 years).
Technology serving the customer
The system is the result of a design process lasting several years, developed together with leading partners such as Futura, Imel, Wagner, Lesta and Chemetall.
A collaborative effort that led to workflow optimisation, the elimination of bottlenecks and increased productivity, while maintaining ergonomics, safety and sustainability as key design priorities.
The feature published in ipcm® describes COMEL as a success story: a company capable of investing in the future and bringing in-house technologies that often remain the preserve of only the most specialised subcontractors.
With this decision, COMEL has secured autonomy, control, quality and sustainability, becoming a benchmark for its customers and for the industry.
